Airport wireless bridge setup
Can your briefly describe what you have tried so far? What steps did you take? What happens after each step? Jan 7, AM. Do you connect the AE in the basement with an ethernet cable, or do you want it to extend the WiFi network? If the last: you do nothing in the primary AE and configure the second basement one to "extend the network".
Nothing "bridge" in that case. The WiFi strength must be just enough to receive the main level WiFi signal. Just confirming, you want to wirelessly bridge Ethernet devices, correct? If so you will want to 'extend' the network. The Extreme is being used on the main level as the router for the entire house -- it is working fine. After successfully setting up the router I plugged in the Express to the power outlet in the basement. I opened Airport Utility and waited for the Express to appear.
A new item popped up but it wasn't called an Airport Express. I didn't see any options to set up the Express or to discover it. I also haven't attached the Express to my laptop via ethernet cable -- that may be the next step but I thought the Express could be connected wirelessly once the router was set up. Thanks again for the assistance. I don't see any articles laying out the process or any instructions. I been doing some research regarding the apple extreme as well as the apple express products to extend my network and make it work better with an apple iTV that I want to send photos and slidesshows via airplay.
I have a 2nd generation extreme setup as my main wireless network. I also setup one 1st generation extreme as well as one express units to extend the range and signal strength. When I setup my iTV I see the signal extreme to just three 3 bars without the additonal units powered on.
When I power and configure the other two units to extend the network, I do not see any difference in signal strenght in my iTV. Thus when I am sending info to the iTV, the music and slide show are rerky and erratic.
I setup the 1st generation extreme as it's own separate network without access to the internet and then instructed the iTV to connect to it. It did so and I was able to display movies and slide shows perfectly. The signal strength was high. So, I am not sure how come the signal strenght is not affected by the use of my extreme as an extender. Can you provide some light on this?
Choose the network name you set earlier and enter the password if you created one. The Apple AirPort is a celebrated, modern router that looks good and functions how it should. And with the rise of mesh Wi-Fi systems and superpowered gigabit routers, a slightly outdated yet surprisingly expensive AirPort may not be worth your time. To extend a wireless network , your Time Capsule must be within adequate reach of your current wireless router.
For the WET11 to work, it has to connect to your base station. Write down the resulting WEP key information, and save it for later. So as not to mess up your existing network settings, click on the pop-up list next to Location, choose New Location, and name it wet To connect to it, you need to set your Mac to be on the same subnet as that device.
Set the Subnet Mask to Click on Apply Now, and close System Preferences see second screenshot.
